Missed the registration deadline?

If your food business did not apply for registration by 28 February 2019, you will be operating an unregistered business. This means:

  • customers may refuse to accept your goods or use your services
  • the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and councils may take enforcement action.

Deemed food control plans, and the Voluntary Implementation Programme

Deemed Food Control Plans (FCPs) and Voluntary Implementation Programme (VIP) plans need updating and registration to comply fully with the new laws. These plans were a temporary measure put in place to help businesses transition to an FCP in time for the 28 February 2019 deadline.

You need to work with your council or MPI on a suitable FCP. If you didn't register by 28 February 2019, you will no longer be considered as having a valid FCP.

Thinking of starting a new food business?

All new food businesses must register as soon as they start trading. Before you register, use our online tool,  Where Do I Fit? to find out what rules you need to follow.
